What is a Polytechnic?
A Polytechnic is a diploma or vocational course in which an institute focuses on delivering technology education. Generally, polytechnic courses are a three-year program after completion after which candidates obtain a certificate. Polytechnic also helps students to start their careers by getting a good job at a reputed company. Most of the institutes offer polytechnic diplomas in civil, mechanical, electrical, and newly emerging branches.

What is the difference between a Polytechnic and B.Tech?

The basic difference between polytechnic and B.Tech is that polytechnic is a diploma course whereas B.Tech is a degree course.
Polytechnic courses are generally for three years, whereas B.Tech is a four-year undergraduate program.

Eligibility Criteria
There are certain conditions and requirements that need to be fulfilled by the candidates in order to be considered for admission to the polytechnic diploma. Should have passed class 10th or 12th

Minimum Marks
Candidates should have obtained 40% marks in the qualifying examination. (Note: Minimum marks can vary from institute to institute) Nationality Should be of Indian NationalCompulsory Subjects Generally, Mathematics, Science & English are considered to be compulsory polytechnic subjects to apply for diploma courses.

Admission Process
Registration - In order to get admission into any polytechnic program, candidates are required to fill out and submit the application form released by the concerned authorities within the specified dates. While filling out the application form, candidates have to provide some basic details such as personal details, academic details, & contact details and upload required documents such as photographs and signatures. During the application process, candidates will also be required to
make a payment of the application fee. It should be noted that the application form will be different for each polytechnic course.


Issue of admit card - There are many state polytechnic entrance exams that are conducted for admission to the polytechnic courses offered by the participating institutes of the state. The authorities will release the admit card for all the candidates who will register within the specified dates. The admit card will contain all the details regarding the polytechnic exam day such as the candidate’s name, exam date, exam time, allotted exam center, and exam day instructions.


Entrance exam - The concerned authorities conduct their respective entrance exams for polytechnic courses after the 12th as per the schedule.
Declaration of result - After the examination, the authorities declare the result of the entrance exam. Only those candidates who will qualify for the entrance exam will be eligible for admission.

Counselling Process - Candidates who will qualify for the entrance examination will be called to participate in the counseling process. After the counseling, the authorities will allot seats to the candidates on the basis of merit, preference, and availability of seats.
