The University Grants Commission (UGC) is the regulatory body of university and colleges in India. The UGC is responsible for formulating standards and regulations, promoting higher education, allocating grants to universities, colleges and institutions. The subject-wise syllabus of The University Grants Commission (UGC) Paper II as follows:

Section A: Environmental Science

Describe how we can conserve biodiversity in India using examples from different ecosystems.

Section B: History

Describe the contribution of ancient Indian scientists to science and technology through the ages?

Section C: Political Science/Economics/Sociology/Psychology/Education etc.

Describe the role played by political parties in shaping policies on environmental issues during their tenure? Explain your answer with examples from recent times.”

The following are topics from which questions are asked in the UGC NET paper II.
Reasoning: Mental Ability includes induction, syllogism, analogy, classification and number series and many more.

Numerical ability: It is mainly about numbers and their representation in the real world. Questions based on number systems like decimal system or binary system are common in this section of exam. In addition to that questions related with arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of numbers etc. which will be asked from this section of paper can also be expected by the candidates who are preparing for UGC NET examination.

Induction or Inference: It is a process of arriving at a general statement from specific data.

Syllogism: It is a formal logic that consists of three parts called premises, conclusion and middle term. The conclusion is derived from the premises by applying some logical rules known as 'syllogistic rules'.

Analogy: This type of argument involves comparing two things based on their common features while ignoring their differences.

Classification: Classifications are made into different groups on the basis of shared characteristics or properties respectively, such as size, colour etc. There are various types including natural classifications (based on similarities), artificial classifications (based on groupings done by humans), numerical classifications (based on numbers used to define them) and qualitative classifications (which do not involve numbers).

Aptitude: Mathematical word problems (Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Profit & Loss) and Statistics (Mean, median, mode) will be a part of this section.
Mathematics is one of the most important subjects and a candidate should be good in all its branches. The paper will have questions from Arithmetic and Geometry. Ratio & proportion: Given four quantities X, Y, Z and W respectively such that their ratio is 1 : 2 : 3 and difference between two successive ratio is 1 then find value of X?

Profit & Loss: A shopkeeper purchased goods worth Rs 40000 at 20% discount on selling price then sold it for Rs 60000 after getting 10% profit what was original selling price?

English Comprehension covers the skills of reading comprehension of unseen texts which may include fiction/non-fiction text or poetry. This also includes grammar that is usage/correction of sentences and vocabulary.

Grammar: The test will involve questions on the usage and correction of sentences, e.g., punctuation marks, placement of commas, apostrophes etc., use of adjectives and adverbs in phrases and clauses (e.g., misplaced modifiers).

Vocabulary: This section will require you to identify synonyms for a given word from a set list as well as making antonyms out of given words from a set list. You’ll also have to match words from one set with their related definition in another set provided in multiple choice format.

Unit 1 Syllabus in History deals with the historical themes like Mahatama Gandhi, Indian National Movement and the History of Modern World.
The History of Modern World: This unit covers the period from the middle of eighteenth century to present time. It deals with the impact of industrialization on society, nationalism and modernization.

Mahatma Gandhi: This unit gives an overview of Gandhiji's life and times including his role in Indian National Movement.

Indian National Movement: In this unit you will get an introduction to the history of India through modern times by learning about various movements like Samaj movement, Arya Samaj movement, Bharatiya Jana Sangh etc., which worked towards freedom struggle.

Unit 2 Syllabus in History covers World History through maps along with major geographical features like river system, climate and resources along with details of India's physical features including rivers etc.
