Introduction

The public sector undertakings (PSUs), are government-owned corporations in India. They were established by an Act of Parliament, and their shares are not listed on any stock exchange. These companies have contributed significantly to the industrialization of India since its independence in 1947. The PSUs provide employment opportunities for engineers in various fields like electrical, civil, mechanical, chemical etc.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL):

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is India's largest power equipment manufacturer. It manufactures power equipment for thermal, hydro and nuclear power plants, as well as for the railways.

BHEL was established in 1959 by Government of India to meet its requirements for electrical equipment under Public Sector Undertakings Act 1952. The company has its headquarters at Mumbai's Urania Island and has eight manufacturing divisions spread across various locations across India: Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore in Tamil Nadu; Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh; Visakhapatnam again; Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh; New Delhi & Mumbai Metropolitan Region respectively..

It was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of the government of India and is headquartered at New Delhi, India. The company also has its presence in Singapore, which is its head office for BPCL's operations outside India.

History:

The company was founded in 1862 by Thomas Lipton with an annual turnover of approximately $1 billion USD by 2021, making it one of the top 10 companies globally according to Forbes magazine's list.[1] In 1927 it became part of BP Group after merging with Standard Oil Company (India) Ltd., which was then sold off to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). Today BPCL has around 30% shareholding under state-owned IOCL & NALCO Private Limited who jointly run all their properties for profit making purposes instead as subsidiaries because these were formed during colonial era where there were no laws governing such thing like how did you become an employee here or there?

GAIL India Limited:

GAIL India Limited is an Indian state-owned gas infrastructure company with its headquarters in New Delhi, India. The company was founded as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in 1977.

GAIL's main business is to supply natural gas to customers through its network of pipelines, which includes over 6,000 km² (2,300 miles²).

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL):

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is a state-owned oil and gas company based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is a Fortune 500 company and ranks 211 on the Forbes Global 2000 list for 2015. HPCL was founded in 1932 as Hindustan Oil Fields Limited (HOFL).

The corporation has been listed on the stock exchanges since its inception. The shares of HPCL are traded on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE).

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL):

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is an Indian state-owned oil and natural gas company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The company's main business is the exploration, production and marketing of crude oil and natural gas through a network of over 12000 retail outlets across India.

The company has been ranked among top 50 companies by Forbes India every year since 2012 with their net profit increasing from Rs 1,252 crore (US$202 million) in 2013–14 to Rs 2,027 crore (US$318 million) in 2016–17. In 2017, it became one of only three Indian companies to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange; the others being Bharti Airtel and ONGC Videsh Ltd..

The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is a PSU under the Ministry of Communication and IT. It offers jobs in various streams like Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication and Computer Science.
