ICMR Recruitment: Exam Syllabus, Pattern, Books & Preparation Tips

The Indian Council of Medical Research invites applicants to apply for various posts at the ICMR Recruitment. Every year, the ICMR provides the selected candidates with the job they applied for. For this, candidates need to sit for a computer-based examination. Then, they follow this up with a physical test. Moreover, candidates should also prepare for an interview.

The computer-based examination is based on a variety of subjects. The ICMR has prepared specific questions to test the mental ability of the candidates. Thus, the syllabus includes subjects such as General knowledge, common statistics, along common scientific phenomena. The candidates should prepare for each of these subjects before appearing for the examination.

ICMR Recruitment Syllabus
Further, the Council has divided each subject into different topics which the candidates will need to prepare. For instance, the candidates need to be well prepared when it comes to Common Statistics. It will involve questions aimed at testing the critical thinking power of the candidates. Also, the general knowledge questions test the knowledge of the candidate about nuclear science among other topics. It also intends to test the candidate on the knowledge of synthetic materials and measurements. Moreover, the Scientific Phenomenon aims to test the candidates on their knowledge of natural occurrences. Thus, the Council will set the questions to test the knowledge of the candidates across all these spheres.

ICMR Recruitment Mains Examination
The ICMR JRF Recruitment process consists of a computer-based exam. The Council will conduct these exams once the candidates pass the initial application screening process. Moreover, certain posts only require an application process. The next step for such candidates will be the interview process.

The Council has organized specific criteria for different posts:

The ICMR Consultant candidates should have an MBBS degree with 3 years of experience. Moreover, they may have BAMS or BDS degree with 3 years of experience. However, candidates may have either of the two requirements.
The ICMR Project Assistant candidates need to be a Bio-informatics graduates with 3 years of experience. Moreover, they may have a post-graduation degree in Bio-informatics.
Scientist II (non-medical) candidates need to have PhDs in fields of Sciences/Biomedical Sciences/Molecular, Biology/Bioinformatics, etc. However, they may also need to have 2 years of experience after a Ph.D.
Project Field Worker needs to have a graduation degree in the fields of Nutrition, Sociology, etc. Moreover, they should also have knowledge of local languages.
ICMR Exam Pattern
The candidate should study the ICMR exam pattern thoroughly as each section of the examination consists of different types of questions with a separate set of marks. Read the following information to understand the exam pattern.

The exam will carry 150 marks
The questions will be objective type in the form of multiple-choice questions
The paper will consist of 80 marks & each question will carry 0.80 marks
The Council will provide candidates with 120 minutes or 2 hours to complete the entire examination
There is a negative marking in ICMR JRF exams & 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer
The level of difficulty in the questions is given as per the Graduation or higher secondary level
The candidate can attempt the exam in the English language only
Section A has 50 marks and is a non-optional paper
Section B & C consists of 100 marks
Section B consists of Life Sciences whereas, Section C is for Social Sciences.
The candidates can attempt only 75 questions in the second section.
Section Total Marks (out of 150)
Section A – Aptitude Test 50
Section B – Life Sciences or 100 or
Section C – Social Sciences 100

ICMR Preparation Tips
The ICMR Recruitment Exam tests the mental power of the candidates. Moreover, it also tests their physical abilities. Every year hundreds of students sit for the examination with limited vacancies. The Council has estimated the total number of 150 vacancies for this year for one particular posy. Thus, the candidates need to be properly prepared for the ICMR Recruitment examination.

Get Familiar with the Syllabus
Aspirants should be well prepared before appearing for this exam as the syllabus for the exam covers many subjects. Therefore, it is advised to clearly follow the syllabus of the ICMR examination and also have a clear idea about the exam pattern and then start preparing for the exam. Make sure that you prepare for the section you applied for as you can choose between Sections B and C in the form.

Get Familiar with the Previous Years’ Questions
